23 Aug Instagram Scheduling Tools Comparison
With the increasing popularity of Instagram, we’re constantly getting asked what is the best way to manage an Instagram presence with a limited amount of time. We’re all about doing things faster, easier and more effective so we’ve road-tested the best Instagram Scheduling Tools and compiled them in to an easy to read summary and analysis.
It’s important to note, the Instagram API (the technical term for the system that allows 3rd party tools to plug in to the main tool) is currently changing with the introduction of advertising arriving to everyone and as it’s owner Facebook looks to monetise the growing platform.
While most of these tools stay up to date and ahead of the curve with any changes, Instagram can make sudden changes that may cause errors with the scheduling capabilities and potentially render the tool useless. We’ll keep this blog post up to date though so any changes are made as we go.
NONE of these tools provide the exact experience you get within Instagram, purely because Instagram won’t open up their API to allow other tools to use the unique features you get within Instagram. Put simply, Instagram want you to use their app and spend time there, not elsewhere. The Instagram app is still the best way to post on Instagram but we know it’s not always possible, here is where these tools come in to play.
We’ve broken down each tool in to the main features we look for when posting on Instagram:
- Available on Desktop and/or Mobile App
- Posts directly to Instagram For You, no manual posting from a notification required
- Ability to leave a first comment
- Tagging users within the photo
- Add geo-location to images
- Edit images and apply filters
- Crop images
- Allows for more than one team member
- Manage more than one account
For what it’s worth, we don’t have any direct affiliation with any of these companies, we just want to give you the best information so you can make an education decision.
Ok, so here is each Instagram scheduling tools feature in a nutshell, scroll down for a further explanation on each and our analysis and rankings:
Schedugram – ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
We think this is the best tool (we use it) for scheduling on Instagram out there, but it does come with a cost. If you’re in the Europe or North America though the good news is the $20 monthly fee is in Australian Dollars so it works out slightly cheaper for you due to the conversion rate! (Poor Aussie economy FTW!). The best feature of Schedugram is that it posts directly to Instagram for you with no notification and manual posting required.
This tool is only on Desktop so we recommend batching your images and doing them all at once. We really like the ability to put your hashtags in the first comment so you don’t need to do it manually once it’s published, it’s a little thing but we like it.
Hootsuite – ❤️❤️❤️
The biggest social media monitoring service in the world has recently added Instagram to it’s array of accounts you can manage. The only service of it’s type to do so, the beauty of Hootsuite is that you publish your Instagram photos across multiple social networks catering them to each and cross promoting your content…the free aspect is also pretty cool.
They haven’t changed the positing interface to make it more ‘Instagram like’ and the location ability is only possible with Facebook & Twitter so we’re waiting for it to be enabled on Facebook.
The main catch is that you will still need to manually post your image to Instagram, you will receive a notification that it is time to post and you can open the Instagram app and paste your caption that was copied to the clipboard directly in to the captions.
Latergramme – ❤️❤️
The Latergramme Instagram scheduling tool on desktop.
This service looks is also free to a certain point (30 posts/month) and works similar to Hootsuite with it’s notification and manual posting process. Where it differs is that it allows you to manage more than one Instagram account. We know that some business owners like to manage more than one for different styles or from a personal & business aspect.
One important thing to remember when using these manual posting services is that you need to make sure you are logged in to the account you want to post from! There is no way to check which account you are logged in to on Instagram once you are in the photo editing stage, which is where the manual service take you to directly.
Publish – ❤️
This mobile only service is great if you like to schedule on the go. When you schedule it works out the best time to publish for you and then sends you a manual notification to go through the same process as Hootsuite and Latergramme (see above).
Onlypult – ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
This service gives Schedugram a run for it’s money with it’s features it offers. Not only does it post directly to Instagram for you, you can also add a geo-location to your pic. With the new structure of Instagram search, locations are becoming more and more important to be found. Instagram recently changed the ability to create custom locations though (see Dan’s blog post on it here, people went a bit crazy) so we’ll keep an eye on this feature to see if it’s restricted in the future.
You can also manage multiple accounts within each plan (3 with the $12 plan) that sets it apart from Schedugram that charges the $20 fee per account. Multiple team member management starts from it’s $20 plan.
Instagram Scheduling Tools Summary…
Nothing beats using the Instagram app to post your updates but for the time poor business owner or social media manager that is juggling multiple roles, these might help allay some of those struggles.
Is there a service we have missed? We’ve focused on these popular ones but we’d like to make a comprehensive list of all Instagram management tools. Leave a comment if there is one you think is worth profiling…
